Play dates... The kids love them and the moms love them. My wonderful friend, Tina, invited my crew over today to enjoy some lunch and play time with the kids. My intention was to get up this morning and work out, come home, shower, and head over to Tina's house. Unfortunately I have a HORRIBLE chest cold that has been keeping me up all night coughing for three nights in a row & I just didn't get out of bed on time this morning. Instead, I took my time getting ready & headed over to Tina's house at 11:00AM.
Tina has a sweet set-up for the kids at her place- a couple of acres & a wonderful playground setting with toys, slides, & swings. And being the good moms that we are, we take turns punting the children back out into the yard while we say "go outside... it's a BEAUTIFUL day..." But really, we just want to be able to VISIT! I ended up hanging out with Tina for three hours (time flies when you're having fun) and then it was time to go. Old Amy would have said "well... I was sick last night & didn't get to go to the gym this morning so I guess I'll hit the gym tomorrow" however I knew I had a commitment to YOU, my Internet friends, so I headed home to put on my running shoes. I got to the gym at 2:30PM and was told that childcare was closed until 4:00PM. Old Amy would have said "well... I tried" HOWEVER... I put the kids back in the car, ran some errands, and went home to clean the house for an hour.
At 4:00PM, sharp, I was back at the gym... Two kids in tow and a fist full of change to pay the childcare fees ($.50 per kid) and the kid fees ($.25 per kid for the candy machines on the way out. That's right... candy machines in the lobby of the fitness center. Go figure).
In conclusion: Even though I was unable to make it to the gym in the morning, I still made it. I had my line of usual excuses and I... excused them. I completed one hour of cardio on the elliptical. And what was my "outside of the box" accomplishment for today?
I didn't accept any excuses for what I knew I needed to do.
I also learned that from 4-5PM I can watch Oprah while I exercise and my usual gym friends aren't there (replaced by hot young 16 year old girls who need to eat a sandwich) so I'm able to cut my usual chit-chat and get a more intense work out.
ON TO DAY THREE... and don't forget: this week's give-aways are coming and they're going to be goooooooood!!

Hope you get to feeling better Amy. :) Keep it up!
Awesome blog! I love your summer challenge - well done :-)
Nice commitment, Am's. I probably would have buckled under preassure amid so many attractive "quitter mentality" options. I love how you excused your excuses. Great job!
Great job today! I ate and ate unhealthy goop all day( my last day of work) You can do that on your last day...Right!? Now I am going to the gym tonight with my neighbor. It will be the second time for me. No More Excuses For ME! We can do it!
I have never been to tinas...sounds fun! I parked far away from the parking lot, then went through drive through pizza to make up for it...lol, I leave soon to come back home yay! Keep up the good work and enthusiasm! hope your cold goes away.
That is great. You look happy that you are working out in that pic. I mowed the lawn again today...man it grows fast.
It was AWESOME having you and "the crew" over. I love having a safe and entertaining place for my kids to go so I don't feel bad when I kick them out and lock the door behind them every day. (evil grin)
Actually it's my favorite place to go hang out when the weather is nice.
I'm so proud of your workout ethic. Excuses are easy and familiar. Doing it anyway, especially when just getting back on the wagon... that's tough. Go Hot Mama!
Camille... Come play too :)
Good job Amy!!
