It took us twelve years to get here...

Saturday was our twelve year anniversary. Over the years we've celebrated by going to a movie... going shopping... going out to dinner... This year we went SKIING! It felt so good to choose a healthy activity rather then something that would involve sitting/shopping/eating. We loaded up on protein for breakfast (I had a protein bar & hot chocolate that = 30g) and were so busy & full that we didn't eat again until 4PM! (Not my recommendation but it happens.) We packed some sliced cheddar, a Hickory Farms turkey stick, some crackers, and water for our afternoon snack, which was very satisfying after a tiring day. When we got home Ashlyn came over at 8PM so that Eric & I could go out for a nice steak dinner. Half of our conversation at dinner was about how sore were were & how we couldn't wait to get home & soak in the hot tub...

Some of Eric's favorite childhood memories are of the ski trips he and his family would take.

Many times he has told me how he hoped our little family would one day take up the sport. Secretly, I knew I'd never ski. How could I when I was so overweight? There were so many things I would not consider doing while I was so heavy and skiing was definitely on that list. Losing the weight has been a catalyst for so many new things I have been able to accomplish in the last 4/5 months. I've lost the "I don't think I can do that" attitude and replaced it with an "I'm going to give it my best try." THAT is why we need to lose the weight. In losing the weight, you find yourself. And, surprisingly, I found myself strapped to a couple of skis flying across the snow. How would've thought?

And (if you can bear it) as a final thought... I'd like to say how thankful I am for my husband of TWELVE years! How many people get to spend their lives with their best friend? He's a wonderful father, kind, helpful to everyone, and one of the "good guys." He's loved me, literally, through thick AND thin and there's not a day that goes by that I am not thrilled to be his "Mrs."

This is so inspiring Amy! (OH and happy 12th Anniversary!!) My hubby used to ski as a kid as well and loved it. I have never been physically confident to try it, but it's on my list of things to try when I'm physically ready! Glad you had an amazing time!

WOW, birthday and anniversary and Christmas all in about a week!

What an amazing anniversary day. You are changing your family mold. Instead of being couch sitters getting rounder you are creating an active family! I look forward to that! My dh loved skiing as a teen and young adult. Now with probably an extra 100 pounds on him he drives my boys to the mountains and waits in the lodge for them.

Thanks so much for your kind words on my blog today! It meant a lot and brought tears to my eyes. It was very difficult for me to do and was a HUGE accomplishment!

Happy Anniversary!
