Day 21: Grilling, pooling, and giving things away...

Sometimes. Sometimes you have little kids who think they are smarter than you. And they have to be taught a lesson. I asked... I begged... "Lauren, won't you jump into the pool so I can get a picture of you in mid-air?" But she wouldn't listen. She just didn't want to cooperate. She forced Eric into action. (Wouldn't I love to have those long, thin legs?)

HELLO, Internet! We've had a very nice Sunday filled with church, a wonderful dinner with friends, and tiring the children out at our friend's pool.

We LOVE eating over at Marty & Arielle's house... Marty is an AMAZING chef! (Arielle says she doesn't cook- she's just Marty's muse.) Tonight we had grilled chicken, grilled corn, grilled artichokes, and fresh fruit. It was DIVINE. Summer is the best time for grilling and it there aren't a lot of limitations on what you CAN grill. I had never heard of grilled artichokes and they were so delicious. Marty added some salt, pepper, olive oil, and lemon juice before putting them on the grill for about a half hour: YUM. At our house, we like to grill pineapple. Have you done that? It tastes like CANDY.

Unfortunately for me, with all of the activities I was committed to, there was no time for exercise. Sunday is a day of rest anyway, right? And you know what that means... A GIVEAWAY! Earlier in the week I mentioned a kitchen tool I can't live without: My Magic Bullet Blender! I love to use it for making my protein shakes in the morning and my chilled orange juice treats in the hot afternoon. It's fast and convenient, since it has so many cups you can use & interchange throughout the day.

To enter this contest, please answer the following question in the comments section of this rebuildingamy.blogspot.com blog:

What is your favorite thing to grill in the summertime?

Entries will be accepted through midnight, June 29th, 2010. Only one entry per person, please. The winner will be announced on Wednesday, June 30th, 2010 on this blog. Winners must claim their prize by email me at rebuildingamy@gmail.com. Winners will be chosen in a high-tech fashion, by me drawing their name from a mug.

I'm off to straighten the house and collapse somewhere... like a couch or the foot of my bed. The sun does strange things to me. Until tomorrow...

My favorite summer grilling meal is shish-kabobs. LOVE THEM! Shrimp, chicken, deeer steak, peppers, onions, mushrooms (for the hubs, I dont like them), potatoes, squash, ok, really anything that I think of that I can skewer...LOL! AND, I *big-puffy-heart* grilled pineapple! I could do kabobs everyday and be totally, perfectly, 100% happy.

I love to grill - these past 2 years I have taken the grill away from my hubby and I have been doing it. My new favorite is Turkey Burgers, with turkey bacon and provolone cheese. The family uses buns and I use large leafs of lettuce as my bun. I love it !!!!!!!!!!
I did have an empty schedule today so I was able to go to the Henley track and walk 3 1/2 miles and this evening I walked another 30 minutes along side my daughter while she skateboarded. Than had huge salads for dinner with grilled chicken on them :):) Happy Sunday Amy......thanks for your blog I look forward to it daily.

I love the photo and the view your friends have. WOW. My favorite thing to grill is any kind of fish. Depending on the type of fish determines what i put on the fish. Salmon I usually go for a sweet/tangy sauce, but for trout I will do a dill/garlic butter sauce. I always put lemon juice on the fish first then put on the seasoning/sauce. The lemon juice seems to get rid of a strong fish flavor. However, this summer has been sad. I lost my grill this spring to a freak storm that the wind was so strong it upturned my grill and damaged all the burners. Well, instead of buying a new grill I had all these points I had accumulated and I was able to get a grill from it although it is A LOT smaller. Well, the grill still hasn't arrived. I would of done better to go buy a grill.

i just finally got caught up reading everything! We have been gone since Thursday and apparently I missed a good giveaway! But sounds like you had a fun weekend and all kinds of people cooking for you! I'm jealous! WE were gone stuck to eating out as our options...I tried to be good. I got in lots of walking, but also lots of good food. I gotta make up for it this week!
So I have to enter this one because as soon as you mentioned that blender I wanted it and was tempted to look it up! I probalby still will...but nonetheless, my favorite lately to grill is Shrimp! WE just had the missionaries over on WEd and did chicken and shrimp and I think I could have eaten all 10 skewers! Yum! Sorry this is so long...saw you guys at church today and hoped you are doing well!

I love to grill jalapeno, cream cheese bacon wrap thingys. I don't know what they are called but my sister got me hooked on these things couple of years ago. They are low in calories too. You get jalapenos, cut them in half and take out seeds. You put about 2 teaspoons of cream cheese in each half then wrap it with a piece of bacon and secure with a toothpick. If you use Weight Watchers yummy cream cheese and Butterball turkey bacon (which taste like normal bacon to me)it ends up being 150 calories for 6 of them (2Tablespoons cream cheese and 6 pieces of bacon). They are very filling.

I love (or should I say I love when the hubby grills ha ha) to grill steak. For me 4oz is plenty and I can load up on veggies with it and a small sweet potato. Good stuff. I also enjoy chicken and of course, who doesn't enjoy a good cheeseburger now and then?

My absolute favorite thing to grill is pork ribs. Matt bakes them first for about 4 or 5 hours and then throws them on the BBQ for a while with his homemade sauce and oooooohhhh, yeahhhhhh, I am blissfully happy.

Hey Amy!
Sooo because SOMEBODY told me I had to stop stalking and start contributing, here goes! I LOVE ribs - nice, juicy, mouth-watering ribs on the bar b. But on a healthier note, I do love grilled zucchini and summer squash...plus those grilled artichokes looked pretty yummy...I think I might need to give those a try. So there ya go! Let me loose and I'll write a novel (you'll wish I had stuck to stalking!) :o) Keep up the good work! You're amazing!

Mmmmm...grilled food. My favorite very unhealthy item to grill is bratwurst....YUM-O! Now that I'm more aware of what is going into my body (and those of my children) I love to grill chicken sausages. Right now I'm in love with the spinach and artichoke ones with some grilled purple onions on them. Delish!

It seems everything tastes better when you grill it in the summer! I think my most favorite is grilled burgers, and i've gotten alot fo recipes of new mix-in's to mix with the beef to give nice new flavors!
Thanks for sharing your life with us through your blog, it seems to keep me on track more often!

Grilling in my home means that my husband is doing it. So, I like to grill anything because I don't have to do it. But I am a fan of grilled corn on the cob

Okay well my guilty pleasure from the grill is baby back ribs. We have a treager so it smokes them and oh are they good!

My favorite thing to grill is Mahi-mahi. It is a new favorite seeing how my husband and I grilled it for the first time on Sunday. It was so full of flavor. I am not sure what the marinade consisted of, but I know there were chunks of jalapeno in there that added a perfect amount of heat.

Although I have had most vegetables grilled in one form or another, I must confess, I don't think I have ever had a traditional kabob. However, from what many of you have described, I am missing a great deal of goodness.
