Weekend recap & ANOTHER AMAZON GIVEAWAY! (look at the bottom of the post!!)

This weekend has been crazy. Eric's mother came in from out of town (always a treat to see her!!) for Lauren's baptism. Saturday was the day of the event which meant I was running errands & attending events from the moment my feet hit the ground.

Sunday I wasn't feeling well in the morning so I stayed home from church (I'm bad) but was feeling better by the early afternoon. We wanted to enjoy the beautiful weather outside since we live in the tundra and haven't felt 70 degree temperatures since... 2009... and we decided to take the kids Geocaching. Have you heard about Geocaching? It's SO COOL. Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game you play using your GPS device or, in our case, our iPhones. (ahhhh... the iPhone. It has forever changed my life. I love you, Steve Jobs. Your brain is SEXY.) You can use the iPhone app, pull up whatever Geocache locations are near-by, and GO. When you find what you are looking for, usually a jar or box hidden behind a rock or in a tree, you open it up, sign the register, take a gift from inside & leave one behind. The kids LOVE it and Geocaching always provides an excellent opportunity for a good hike.

While we were exploring the hills of Klamath Falls, Eric found a large piece of quartz. Being the rock hounds that they are, Eric and Lauren were both excited about their find and asked me to carry it to the car. The rock was a little smaller then a football but let me tell you... after a while it became quite heavy. I shifted it from hand to hand, finally setting it on the ground as I was waiting for Eric to herd the children into the car. It was a nice reminder of the extra pounds I'm carrying on my own frame, each and every day. What kind of "bag of rocks" am I toting on my hips and across my back? Setting down that 3 pound-ish rock felt GREAT after a while... how good will it feel to set aside 30 pounds? FIFTY pounds?

We came home after our excursions and Eric said "are you going to exercise tonight?" Well... (admission, here) I didn't exercise on Saturday because we had been so busy. Then Sunday... I didn't feel well... and it had been a long day with the kids... and a bit later, Eric again asked "when are you planning on exercising?" He knew I needed to go work out. He knew I had not worked out since Thursday and the situation could only get worse if I didn't GET TO THE GYM. So I went to my wonderful Mother in law & asked if she would watch the kids so that the wonderful Dr. Hempel and I could go... TOGETHER... to the gym. AND SHE SAID YES!! It was fun. We had a great workout and I got to look at his wonderful calf muscles for an hour, solid. Thirteen years we've been married & I still love the man's legs. I do, I do.

SO TODAY... because my "usual" gym was closed... and I PANICKED, thinking I would go THREE DAYS IN A ROW without exercising... until I realized I have a membership at Anytime Fitness, too. (NICE PLACE, if you're looking for a gym. Just not my "usual" since they don't have childcare, darn it!) I'm giving away the Biggest Loser Workout called "Cardio Max." That way, if you're in a pinch, you can complete your cardio at home!

All you have to do to enter is answer this question:

Have you ever used an "at-home" work-out DVD or video before? And if so, what was your favorite?

This contest is closing at 8PM Pacific time on Monday, June 14th, 2010. I will announce the winner (from BOTH weekend contests) later that evening on Monday, June 14th, 2010. Only one entry per person, please. If you entered the last blog give-away, you are WELCOME to enter the contest on this blog give-away, too!!

That's all I've got, people. I'm doing laundry, laundry, laundry tonight. With all of this working out, the laundry pile is INCREASING. At least I'm getting more steps in my day, lugging those baskets back and forth, right....?

I haven't found a home workout I like yet. To be honest, I haven't tried many.
I think I would have counted the hike as my exercise for the day, so good for you for double doing it!
Here's to a great week1

I have 12 videos ranging from Cher in lingerie to a Christian music praise aerobics. My favorite continues to be the original Richard Simmons Sweatin to the Oldies. The participants are different sizes and some wear t-shirts and shorts unlike most videos where they have specialty outfits. Also, the weight loss stories at the end are truly inspiring.

I haven't tried too many work-out videos, I used a Leslie Sansone video a couple years back, but felt I didn't have enough "moving around room" in my living room, and felt to cramped!

I know, excuses, excuses!

I've just recently started back at the gym, but would definately like to find an alternative to do at home, for those days I won't want to drive to the gym!

I'll have to netflix, some of the suggestions made here on your comments!

Thanks for sharing your blog with us!

(I'm not entering this contest as I already have this DVD.) But, I wanted to reply to your question. I have several workout DVD's but often don't use them as it is hard to work out with all the kiddos. I love my gym. I have a lot of the Biggest Loser DVD's, Turbo Jam, one Taebo, and 30-day Shred. I love the 30-day shred the most as it is short but I get a huge workout.

Taebo is the only one I've ever owned. Used it a ton.

One of my FAVORITE exercise DVD's is the Biggest Loser Weight Loss DVD's. It's awesome. It really makes you sweat.

I am an avid fan of Tae Bo, even though Billy Blanks can't count for crap. Good thing he's not a drummer or preschool math teacher. I have two Tae Bo DVDs and I am looking into getting either a Jillian Michales one or the Beachbody.com series. Loved your latest blog entry. Your sense of humor is just right.

I used to do a workout video in college. I would love something that I could do at home.

My favorite video is Power 90 by Beach Boddy. (Ask Nikki C about it, I think she's a Beach Body coach). It makes you sweat straight out of the gates, let me tell you.
They also have a Power 90 X that I heard was even more intense, but haven't tried it.
Kathy Smith videos are my next favorite because she uses great music and great routines and doesn't have a voice that makes me want to jump through the TV and make me strangle her. Not that I'm violent. Some people just are annoying to hear! =P

I think brains are sexy, too! I had the hugest crush on MacGuyver and then Jared on the Pretender... although it helped that they were both sexy on the outside, too!

Answer to question: Yes! I have used workout DVDs at home, and my favorite has been Jillian's Front and Back workouts - they pack a mean punch in only 20 minutes if you're pressed for time!

My favorite is Jackie Warner's workout - Total Body ( her second one) heavy duty weight train and goes quickly and gets heart rate up quickly Donna @thetoothcleaner@ymail.com [can't get logged in)

not since the days of Richard Simmons! Sweatin' to the Oldies... have I ever told you I met him? nice guy!

I used Richard Simmons "Sweating to the Oldies" when I was younger. More recently I've used workout "videos" that are available "On Demand" via our cable company. Haven't found a fave yet, but tend to choose those with Jillian.

First of all, good for you for all your progress so far! You go girl! Most of the workouts I have tried were much too easy (Jazzercise among them), even when I wasn't in good shape. But having been in martial arts classes before, I know what fantastic workouts they are. The 3DVDs that I love are the Advanced TaeBo (if you can't keep up just do as much as you can until you can keep up ;-), and Kathy Smith's 2 DVDs (although I think you can buy them on 1 DVD together now) Kickboxing Workout and Aerobox Workout. The thing that I love about the last 2, is she'll tell you what to do if you can't keep up. So if you're strong on the arms, you can do advanced arm moves, but if you're weak on legs, you can do the easier movements, or vice versa. These are the workouts that have toned me, faster than any others that I've tried.

I like using the Biggest Loser DVD workouts. They make me feel proud about myself and that I can accomplish something and I like that they use "real" people!

I have done the 30-Day Shred, but only made it through Level 2 before I got too bored...oops.
