DAY NINE: Finding new ways to enjoy the OUTDOORS

Have you ever been running from project to project like your behind is on fire? And then... out of nowhere... your projects are in your rear view mirror and you can take a nice, cleansing breath and relax? That's where I'm at, today. However I feel a little bit of anxiety as I realize I am now committed to SUMMER VACATION. We have 2 kids - Lauren who just turned 8 and Corbin who is 3 (four in September). Being from a family where there were two kids, I always said I would never have only 2 kids and I would never have them 4 years apart. (My brother and I are 4 years apart & never seemed to have much in common.) Thanks to God's sense of humor, years of infertility, and adopting our precious kids... we now have 2 children who are 4 years apart. I love the saying "you get what you get and you don't throw a fit" so we're happy with our kids and the life we have- I wouldn't change a thing. However, it can be... challenging... to have one child who is old enough and tall enough to "ride the rides" and the other child who THINKS he's old enough to keep up. Lauren will be taking some golf and horseback riding lessons this summer and I'm still trying to decide how I'm going to take her where she needs to go without Corbin going into hysterics and telling me "I'M BIG TOO" through his tears. It's hard. Today, after finishing an hour of cardio at the gym (see picture number one) I found an activity that BOTH kids enjoyed and I (BONUS!) was also able to get a little more exercise.

We have a membership at Reames, which is a local golf club here in Klamath Falls. Today, after finishing at the gym, I loaded up the kids along with their bikes and headed for Reames. The grounds are BEAUTIFUL and, of course, there are paved paths throughout the property for the golf carts. Unfortunately, our neighborhood doesn't have sidewalks and the kids are limited as to how far they can ride their bikes on our street. It was joyous to be outside today in the 65 degree sunshine, walking alongside two bicycling kids who could go as fast and as far as they wanted. We biked/walked half of the course and were out there exercising for another 45 minutes. Afterwards, it was lunch time. We'd worked up quite an appetite & Dr. Hempel met us for salads & chicken nuggets. (I had a salad...) If you don't have a golf course to bike on, there are plenty of bike paths in most communities... just ask around!

Today's "outside of the box" idea was taking the kids biking at Reames. They both had a lot of fun, I'm sure we'll do it again soon, and at the end of the day.....

They were pretty tuckered out. (And so am I.)

Soon I'll be discussing some new topics such as my FREAKING AMAZING BODYBUGG (I'm loving this gadget, can you tell?), what I'm eating these days, and some recipes/ideas for healthy foods. Please let me know if there are any other topics you'd like for me to discuss! Until tomorrow...

Yeah, no memebership at reams although I'm dying to get better at golfing. Do you golf? Anyway....had a thought about the activity thing. I don't know if anything you are taking lauren to is something Maliyah could do (age wise) but any time you want to send Corbin here, Jayden and Kyson would LOVE it! We could maybe do a swap...or if not it's not necessary, he is welcome over here any day. And if you ever feel like waking up earlier than 6 am....we have a fun walk we have been doing this week as Sara doesn't have membership at the GYM again until July! (yeah right...you...up before 8!!....I can dream though right?)

Dear Camille,

You've met me in person, right? YOU KNOW I DON'T GET UP IN THE MORNING! I'm doing good to get to the gym by NINE THIRTY!! LOL! But swapping kids? I'd love to do that with you! Corbin would LOVE LOVE LOVE to play with your boys and Lauren really enjoys Maliyah! That sounds like a plan~ let me know when & where!

Jill... Great idea! I just do my own "thing" but I will continue to share what I do & maybe add some new forms of exercise that you or others might like to try. And the next time you see me at the gym, make sure to say hello!

Christina~ thanks for the comment! Aren't 3 year old little boys.... fun.....? Okay.. a lot of work but they ARE pretty darn cute!!

I need to be better at getting both of my kids out of our fenced-in paradise. Its so much easier to keep them caged up outside than try to corral them out "there".
